چکیده

EB is a trace-based formal language created for the specification of information systems (IS). Attributes, linked to entities and associations of an IS, are computed in EB by recursive functions on the valid traces of the system. In this paper, we show how to synthesize relational database transactions that correspond to EB attribute definitions. Thus, each EB action is translated into a transaction. EB attribute definitions are analysed to determine the key values affected by each action. To avoid problems with the sequencing of SQL statements in the transactions, temporary variables and/or tables are introduced for these key values.

EB3TG: A Tool Synthesizing Relational Database Transactions from EB3 Attribute Definitions

EB3 is a formal language for specifying information systems (IS). In EB3, the sequences of events accepted by the system are described with a process algebra; they represent the valid traces of the IS. Entity type and association attributes are computed by means of recursive functions defined on the valid traces of the system. In this paper, we present EB3TG, a tool that synthesizes Java progra...

Translating object-oriented database transactions into relational transactions

In this paper, we present methods of translating transactions from object-oriented database(OODB) to relational database(RDB). The process involves schema mapping in data definition language(DDL) and transaction translation in data manipulation language(DML). They include scheme definition, data query and transaction operation of insert, update, and deletion. We also discuss the object-oriented...

INSTITUT FÜR INFORMATIK UND PRAKTISCHE MATHEMATIK Functional Dependencies for Object Databases: Motivation and Axiomatization

Object identification by abstract identifiers should be considered as a modeling and not as a database concept. This means that object identifiers are not appropriate for the access to specific objects using a database language. In this paper we discuss how the relational concept of a functional dependency can be adapted to object databases in order to get more convenient ways of accessing obje...

Extending Existing Dependency Theory to Temporal Databases

Normal forms play a central role in the design of relational databases. Several normal forms for temporal relational databases have been proposed. These definitions are particular to specific temporal data models, which are numerous and incompatible. This paper attempts to rectify this situation. We define a consistent framework of temporal equivalents of the important conventional database des...

Scheduling Heuristics for Lazy Database Systems

Traditional relational database design specifies that transactions be executed immediately. This adheres to our intuition for how transactions should work—in order to issue a commit/abort decision, we must run the transaction logic to completion. However, there are certain classes of transactions that might benefit from deferred execution in which the commit/abort logic is executed immediately,...
